Ode to Otto - I’m always drawn to finding design inspiration in the nookiest of crannies. Lately, I’ve been digging the world of mid-century modern minimalism, influenced by icons like Herb Lubalin, Cipe Pineles, and Willy Fleckhaus. To dive deeper into this aesthetic, I needed a theme—and I found it in Otto Lilienthal, a pioneer of aviation whose groundbreaking 1889 research laid the foundation for decoding the mechanics of flight, eventually inspiring the Wright Brothers. But Lilienthal wasn’t just a theorist; he built and tested gliders, ultimately giving his life in 1896 during a test flight. His relentless spirit inspired this design exploration, An Ode to Otto—a blend of mid-century modernism and Lilienthal’s story, honoring an aviation trailblazer in a style as bold as his vision. Hope you enjoyed it.
