DALL•E 2

According to fiction writers the AI/Automation take over was supposed to be: Manual tasks > Left brain tasks > Right brain (creative) tasks > 'Skynet' crescendo. Yesterday I had a chance to check out the DALL•E 2 demo by Sam and his team at Open.ai. It's a new AI tool that can create and edit images from natural language instructions. The results are mind-blowing. A few weeks ago we wrote a post on the Future of work and the role of AI. This is a perfect example of how AI will help better augment (in this case) creatives with v0.1 drafts, ideas .. etc. Watch this space, it's about to get super interesting from a tech lens but testy from the ethics / work / employment lens.

NFT Music

$0.99 songs by Apple was the last time I think the music industry saw legit disruption. I think we are on the verge of seeing the next. Streaming today is great for consumers but terrible for the artist. The top 1% of artists receive 90% of all streams and the top 0.8% of these artists earn an average of $50K per year from streaming. Music NFTs are changing the rules of the game, bringing scarcity, total artist control, and a new way for artists to engage their fans through merch or as investors. It's still a very new space, but if you want to take a peek check out Future Tape. They curate the latest web3 music. Think Hypem, but here you can bid to own the song/catalog/etc.  The image is of the Beatles at their first gig at the Cavern.....they were paid £5 Pounds.

Super Trees

The trees we have been planting for Litenote are taking waay too long to grow. We've seen super crops, eg here in India we have CR Dhan 315 for Rice and HI 1633 for wheat. So why not genetically modified super trees that grow faster and suck up more C02?  Recently came across Living Carbon. They have figured out a way to do exactly that by using a bacterium to insert genes from pumpkin and green algae into poplar trees. These trees not only grow 1.5 times faster but suck up more C02. Is anyone in India playing around in this space?

AI Jigsaw

There is a huge hole in the market for decent non-Caucasian stock photography (eg. Indian). I think in the near future, AI morph technology should be able to fix this by morphing an existing library of photos into multiple races. Wouldn't it be rad to search for a set on say Unsplash and then have a browser plugin that then recognizes the faces and race and morphs them into a race of liking? Has anyone come across any early open projects in this space, would love to dig in.

Update: I came across Generated. They use a GAN (generative adversarial network), StyleGAN, Karras, and Nvidia to build the model. They trained it on studio photos by Icons8. Pretty awesome stuff.
